Oban
The distillery began in 1793 by brothers Hugh and John Stevenson when they arrived at the frontier of the Hebrides Islands. They opened the Oban Brewing Company, their ‘Cowbell Ale’ being the first production. In 1989, Oban 14 Year Old was named one of six Classic Malts representing the Western Highlands region.
Oban's stills are small and condensing takes place in worm tubs. It is because of this that Oban produces significantly less than it could. Oban’s whiskies are light rather than heavy, this usually links to a lot of copper contact in the making, The result is a clean, intensely fruity spirit which after ageing in refill casks also has a tingling mineral spiciness.
