Arran Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The only distillery on the Isle of Arran, it was founded in 1994 by Harold Currie (former director of Chivas) at Lochranza. The story began during the construction of the distillery, when a pair of golden eagles built their nest on a cliff near the distillery; since golden eagles are a protected species, construction of the distillery was temporarily halted. The distillery officially opened in 1995. The Arran distillery is now owned by a group of private shareholders. Their second distillery opened in 2019 in Lagg at the south end of the island and is focused on making peated single malt.
