In general it is quite unusual for Scotch Whisky maturation in New Oak Casks.

This scotch whisky named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic coast, Sanaig is a vatting of both sherry and bourbon casks. The high proportion of Oloroso sherry influence adding a balance of dried fruits and spices to classic Kilchoman citrus sweetness and peat smoke character.
Predominantly Sherry Cask matured, Sanaig was awarded the BEST Single Malt Scotch Whisky -NAS at IWSC 2016 and 2022. It snagged a Gold metal Award on the 2024 and 2022 International Spirits Challenge and Spirits Business Awards 2024 Master. .
Nose: Fragrant heather, raisins, pear and orange peel with waves of stoned fruits, mixed spices and rich peat smoke. Palate: Over ripe plums, red cherries and hints of citrus give way to rich barbeque peat smoke, toffee, oak and dark chocolate. A peated Glendronach is not something that you see often though we must emphasize that it comes across as gently or lightly peated. Initially matured in bourbon casks and then into Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, this whisky leans more towards bourban cask flavors - honey wax, malty, floral, spicy notes and subtle smoky elements. More earthy notes than the usual islay smoke or maritime saltiness while retaining the character of the Glendronach spirit.
