Silver Seal was founded by Ernesto Mainardi in 2000, which was his second independent bottling brand/company after the highly esteemed Sestante label was established by him in 1979. Both brands/companies were sold to Massimo Righi, proprietor of Whisky Antique, in 2010 and since then Max (as Massimo prefers to be called) has been selecting and bottling casks of not only whiskies, but also some very memorable expressions of rums.

The Kanosuke Whisky Distillery started operations in 2017 November, and released their first single malt Japanese Whisky in 2021. Kanosuke Distillery has three pot stills, while most distilleries of similar sizes over the world would have two. A unique aspect of maturation for the Kanosuke Distillery is the use the recharred ex-shochu casks for whisky aging as well.
Today, Diageo also owns a minority stake in the Kanosuke Whisky Distillery.
