Distilled in distinctive stainless steel pot stills under vacuum pressure, this whisky undergoes a slow maturation process in new American white oak casks and ex-Bourbon barrels, enhanced by re-charred ex-shochu casks at our Kanosuke Distillery warehouse. The Yamazaki Bourbon 2013 release is part of the inaugural "Wood Collection" series by Yamazaki, which spanned from 2009 to 2014 and included Bourbon, Mizunara, Sherry, and Puncheon cask finishes. This specific bottling is the fourth release of the Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel, following earlier editions in 2011 (2 releases) and 2012 (3rd release).
Aged in a 180-liter cask and matured in a warm climate, this whisky showcases an elegant and sweet profile. The bourbon cask maturation contributes rich vanilla and caramel notes, creating a well-rounded and smooth drinking experience that highlights the craftsmanship of Yamazaki distillers.

"Artist Edition #003" is a lightly peated (around 18 ppm) whisky and is the third release in the Artist Series from the Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan. It has been matured in a variety of casks (bourbon, re-charred ex shochu, sherry, and red wine) which has then been finished in Ex-Kokuto (Brown Sugar) Shochu casks from Amami Oshima Islands of Kagoshima.
Color: orange-amber. Nose: passion fruit, banana, caramel, black tea. Taste: Brown sugar, honey, nikki (a cinnamon like spice), sweet summer, ginger. Finish: Rich brown sugar sweetness with a hint of smoke (Tasting Note from Distillery)
The Artist Edition series from Kanosuke pays homage to the Five Elements that are an integral part of Japanese philosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The Edition #001 (Artist Mariko Hirasawa/Wood) and Edition #002 (Artist Yuna Yagi/Fire) were the previous releases.
For Artist #003 the label captures the diversity of Kagoshima through the theme of "earth" and has been designed by Mr. Yukihito Kanai, a second generation dyer of "Kanai Kougei" (which dyes natural colors such as mud dyeing of Oshima Tsumugi, an ancient dye of Amami-Oshima). He drew inspiration from his visit to Kanosuke Distillery and the artwork features Fukiage Beach (close to the Distillery) as its motif.

This is a 2023 Edition of their PEATED Single Malt Whisky which has been largely matured in Bourbon barrels. While most of the Asaka Distillery produces Non-Peated Single Malt, they occasionally release a Peated bottling from time to time as well in limited quantities. Released in Dec 2023, there were only 600 bottles.
Malt cookies, lime-like citrus, mild peat. Palate: Smoke, tidal stimulation, alazan, plum. Finish: Peat lingers until the end, with a well-balanced acidity and sweetness in the middle.
