Kilkerran

Glengyle is currently owned by the Mitchell family (same owners as that of Springbank Distillery and Cadenheads bottlers) and is based in Campbeltown. The original Glengyle Distillery was also set up by some members of the Mitchell family (as a result of some disagreements within the family) and operated between 1872-1925 but changed hands through the years including a transfer of the "Glengyle" trademark. In 2004, after 79 non-producing years, the distillery was reinstated by Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. However, the new Glengyle Distillery now produces its Single Malts under the "Kilkerran" brand, derived from the Gaelic, “Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain” which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kieran had his religious cell and Campbeltown now stands. The Glengyle distillery uses the same floor malted barley from Springbank next door and is also operated by the same team from Springbank for 3 months in a year.
