Whilst no "Sherry Monster" that Glendronach has built a reputation as - in the more recent times - this vintage bottling from the 1970-80s from this Highland Distillery represents a different style of spirit which is increasingly hard to find. The 1981 Kioke Shikomi is regarded to be largely Hakushu (label states Pure Malt) and reportedly bottled in 2005. The name implies "matured in wooden tubs".  The distillation technique seems to have involved the direct fire method and bamboo charcoal filteration. Discontinued in 1999. No box available.

Nikka Hokkaido 12 Years Pure Malt Japanese Whisky is a refined expression from Nikka Whisky, aged for 12 years in a mix of American oak and sherry casks. It features inviting aromas of dried fruits, honey, and subtle smokiness, with a smooth palate of sweet malt, fruitiness, and spice, leading to a warm finish.

Produced from mild and virtually unpeated malt, this whisky starts off with apples and sweet oranges with oaky/earthy notes. The location for the Miyagikyo distillery was chosen for its high humidity levels. This particular bottling (estimated from around 2000s) has "Miyagikyou" on its label as opposed to later bottlings which spell it as "Miyagikyo".
