This is a marriage of the East and the West. Legendary Mizunara Oak Casks which have been unique to Japanese Whisky, travelled 6000 miles from Japan to Islay and sat in Bowmore's equally legendary No.1 Vaults to finish this remarkable creation.
Originally matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks, which were then finished in Mizunara Oak Casks for about 3 years.

This release on the back of the huge success of the first release (of the same vintage aged 28 years and released in March 2013) was also distilled in 1984 and matured in bourbon casks, which sat in Bowmore's famed No.1 Vaults for 30 years and was bottled in 2014 at cask strength. A beautiful deep gold color with citrus and mint dark chocolate on the nose, the palate is made up of honey, hints of ginger and a finish of elegant fruits and spices with dark chocolate. Only 500 bottles were released.

The 5 part Artist Series includes five carefully selected single-cask whiskeys which are combined with the work of five representative artists in Taiwan. For the fifth (S&W #005) and final release they have chosen a 31 Years Old Whisky from the Dufftown Distillery in Speyside. The Glenrothes started their whisky production in Speyside in 1879 and this Glenrothes Quantum 40 is matured in a sherry cask for 40 years, and the bottle is designed and blown by master craftsmen of Dartington, a British crystal brand with a long history, and the crown-shaped glass stopper is also handmade.
A perfect bottle for a fantastic whisky indeed. Tasting Notes from the distillery: Soaked red cherries and marzipan. A touch of maple syrup with the fragrance of orange zest and light cinnamon. Then dark chocolate coated almonds with dates, toasted oak and nutmeg on the palate. The finish is rich, sweet and complex with lingering spice.
