This whisky released in Jan 2023 has been distilled using a combination of their 3 pot stills and aged in re-charred American white oak ex-“Mellowed Kozuru” aged SHOCHU casks. Kanosuke Distillery is located on the picturesque shores of Fukiagehama beach in Kagoshima was established in 2017 and started its operations in 2018. The Whisky Distillery is owned by Komasa Jyozo, one of the Shochu producers in Japan and currently counts Diageo as one its shareholders (via Distill Ventures, Diageo's Drinks Accelerator).

"Artist Edition #003" is a lightly peated (around 18 ppm) whisky and is the third release in the Artist Series from the Kanosuke Distillery in Kagoshima, Japan. It has been matured in a variety of casks (bourbon, re-charred ex shochu, sherry, and red wine) which has then been finished in Ex-Kokuto (Brown Sugar) Shochu casks from Amami Oshima Islands of Kagoshima.
The result is a single malt Japanese whiskey that captures the essence and diversity of Kagoshima. This is a Limited Release of 5,844 bottles for the Japan market.
Color: orange-amber. Nose: passion fruit, banana, caramel, black tea. Taste: Brown sugar, honey, nikki (a cinnamon like spice), sweet summer, ginger. Finish: Rich brown sugar sweetness with a hint of smoke (Tasting Note from Distillery)
The Artist Edition series from Kanosuke pays homage to the Five Elements that are an integral part of Japanese philosophy: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The Edition #001 (Artist Mariko Hirasawa/Wood) and Edition #002 (Artist Yuna Yagi/Fire) were the previous releases.
For Artist #003 the label captures the diversity of Kagoshima through the theme of "earth" and has been designed by Mr. Yukihito Kanai, a second generation dyer of "Kanai Kougei" (which dyes natural colors such as mud dyeing of Oshima Tsumugi, an ancient dye of Amami-Oshima). He drew inspiration from his visit to Kanosuke Distillery and the artwork features Fukiage Beach (close to the Distillery) as its motif.

Kanosuke Distillery located on the picturesque shores of Fukiagehama beach in Kagoshima was established in 2017 and started its operations in 2018. Unpeated malt distilled using all 3 of their pot stills and aged in a variety of oak barrels (re-charred American white oak ex-“Mellowed Kozuru” aged shochu casks being the main component of casks used) for about 3 years with about 15,000 bottles being released at a cask strength ABV of 58%. Color: Amber Nose: Very present Oak notes along with some sweet lime, orange marmlade, toffee and an overlay of smoke Palate: Woody, vanilla, cinnamon along with some spiciness Finish: Bitter sweetness of chocolate-covered candied orange peel and some dryness.

This is a special bottling released by the Shinshu Mars Distillery and is a vatting of malt from two distilleries, "Komagatake" and "Chichibu", which has been matured at Mars Shinshu Distillery in a variety of Bourbon Barrel, American White Oak and Sherry Oak for more than 5 years. In 2015, Mars Shinshu Distillery and Venture Whisky (Chichibu) Distillery began exchanging their new make spirit, which was subsequently matured in their respective locations. 10,918 Bottles were released.
Nose: sweet maple syrup, oak spices and some notes of varnish along with plum and a hint of caramelised orange peel Palate: Sweet caramel, some brandy cake, cacao and nutmeg with a hint of smoke and spiciness Finish: Gentle tannins along with some black tea on the finish. With water, more caramel and toffee notes are evident along with oak spices.
