This is a marriage of the East and the West. Legendary Mizunara Oak Casks which have been unique to Japanese Whisky, travelled 6000 miles from Japan to Islay and sat in Bowmore's equally legendary No.1 Vaults to finish this remarkable creation.
Originally matured in Bourbon and Sherry Casks, which were then finished in Mizunara Oak Casks for about 3 years.
Mizunara Oak maturation usually imparts unique flavours of sandalwood and coconut. Bowmore Official Tasting Notes (Website) for this bottling. This release on the back of the huge success of the first release (of the same vintage aged 28 years and released in March 2013) was also distilled in 1984 and matured in bourbon casks, which sat in Bowmore's famed No.1 Vaults for 30 years and was bottled in 2014 at cask strength. A beautiful deep gold color with citrus and mint dark chocolate on the nose, the palate is made up of honey, hints of ginger and a finish of elegant fruits and spices with dark chocolate. Only 500 bottles were released.
