The name implies "matured in wooden tubs".  The distillation technique seems to have involved the direct fire method and bamboo charcoal filteration. Discontinued in 1999. No box available.

This Yamazaki single malt is one of Yamazaki 2020 limited edition series released in Nov. 2020. The Puncheon Casks,  coopered by Suntory are larger than the usual ex-bourbon barrels sized at 480 litres and made of high quality American oak. Due to the larger size and hence low contact ratio of puncheons, the maturation is slower and brings about a complexity and richness which highlights the true flavours of the spirit itself. A predecessor to the Hibiki releases, the Suntory Prestige was bottled in 1989 to celebrate Suntory's 90th Anniversary. Most of the malt in this bottling reportedly came from the Yamazaki Distillery combined with grain whisky. An extremely well balanced blend bringing forth cooked fruits, plums, raisins, toffee with a subtle hint of oak and tobacco. Bottled in a Kagami Crystal decanter.
