Hokuto was intially launched in 2004, but was discontinued since 2009/2010, despite it being a big success. This 12 year old pure malt consists of mostly Hakushu and perhaps some Yamazaki. Smooth and balanced, this was positioned as an "easy drinking whisky".

The 1981 Kioke Shikomi is regarded to be largely Hakushu (label states Pure Malt) and reportedly bottled in 2005. The name implies "matured in wooden tubs".  The distillation technique seems to have involved the direct fire method and bamboo charcoal filteration. Discontinued in 1999. No box available.

The 1991 Furudaru Shiage (meaning "old barrel finish") is a pure malt vatting of reportedly Yamazaki & Hakushu distilleries.  It was also bottled in 2005. The distillation technique seems to have involved the direct fire method and bamboo charcoal filteration. Discontinued in 1999. Both bottles come with their original boxes.

Aged entirely in handcrafted 180L bourbon barrels, this is the first release of this bottling from 2009. A unique Hakushu with subtle smoke with tropical fruits, citrus and vanilla. A refreshingly clean palate reflecting the balance of this whisky. Discontinued.

A limited release of 2021 and part of the Tsukuriwake selection, this Hakushu bottling has been matured in Spanish Oak. Only 300 bottles were made available in Japan followed by an undisclosed number for worldwide markets. Nose: Cacao, Manuka Honey, Dark Chocolate. Palate: Soft sweetness interlaced with a hint of drak chocolate bitterness. Finish: smooth and again some dark chocolate notes.

World's Best Single Malt 2020 and 2018 at the WWA. Best Japanese Single Malt 2020 and 2016 at the WWA. Rated 90+ on WhiskyBase. This is indeed an incredible experience of some fabulous peat combined with toffee apples, and oily texture, a sherried palate and a long nutty finish with hints of mint.
